Sima de Cabra chasm

The trail takes you on a tour with impressive views of the Sierras Subbéticas and the Guadalquivir valley through to the world-renowed Sima de Cabra chasm with its long history and numerous legends.

"Once she told me to hul myself into the Chasm of Cabra, a fearful and umprecedented peril, and take back to her a detailed account of what lies concealed in those dark depths." Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes.

Starting out along a first stretch planted mainly with olive trees, a little further on natural vegetation begins to appear with holm oaks, hawthorn, turpentine trees, mastic and impressive hundred year-old oaks. Throughout the tour it is easy to observe peregrine falcons, choughs, jackdaws, kestrels and griffon vultures in flight and a multitude of insectivores as well as rabbits and hares. Next to the Sima de Cabra there is an information boards escribing the chasm with photographs of the interior. Going beyond this point is not recommended, as there is a danger of falling 116 meters. Download the trail guide
